AMF Fastigheter chooses Palats as digital support to scale up internal processes for reuse, as circular construction is a priority for 2024.
We spoke to Michael Eskils, Sustainability Director at AMF Fastigheter AB about their journey towards circular construction. Like many of Sweden's real estate companies, they are developing their way of working to reuse materials within and between their own properties, as a first step.
There's a lot that needs to come together, but that doesn't prevent the organization from starting to test and implement methods for measurable reuse. Michael shares:
"We will work much more methodically to meet the climate goals in our projects, which also includes circular construction. This is just the beginning, but with the Palats tool, we've made a significant step towards continuing to work methodically with circular construction.
Once the internal methodology is established, Eskils sees it as an obvious next step for the industry to work together towards large-scale circular construction:
"Our strategy is to make reuse work internally as a first step. Creating a functioning structure for the circulation of materials is key. There's a growing interest among property companies, and we strongly believe in collaboration, not just between contractors but also, in the long term, between companies."
It’s old news that what you focus on grows. 🌱 To make circular construction a priority within AMF, commitment at the management level and goal monitoring are two keys, according to Eskils:
"Setting goals is crucial for providing direction, but without follow-up, even the best instructions and training risk failure. Follow-up is the key to success."
He continues:"Our CEO's understanding that this is an existential issue shows how seriously we take our responsibility to reduce climate impact."
